Bracket Math

Project your likely opponents and out-rounds from public tournament pairings.

Bracket Math is a smart calculator for tournament records. You give it a tournament's public pairings, tag the round results you are sure about, and it works out what those results mean for your record and your likely opponents' records. It is not a predictor; it never guesses who wins. It chains the consequences of the results you feed it, using power-matching logic.

When to use it

Use it at a tournament, between prelim rounds. Once a few rounds are posted, you can tag what you know (your own results, a teammate's, anyone you scouted) and read off what your record must be and what records your upcoming opponents probably have. It is built to use on your phone at the tournament.

How to use it

  1. Open Bracket Math. You need to be signed in.
  2. Paste a Tabroom or SpeechWire pairings link into the box and click Load tournament. (Those are the two supported sites.)
  3. Pick your team from the dropdown of team codes.
  4. Click Start.
  5. As results come in, tag rounds win or loss. In Your path, each round has W and L buttons; tag the ones you are confident about. You can also tag other teams' rounds in the all-teams list.

Every time you tag a result, the math reruns instantly.

What it shows you

  • Your situation: your current record, shown as a firm "W to L" when it is fully determined, or a "at least W to L" lower bound when only some rounds are known.
  • Your path: your opponent each round, with the inferred record of each one.
  • Bracket hints: cumulative constraints like "entering round 5, at least 3 wins and 1 loss," with the reasoning that produced them.
  • Scenarios: branch off "what if" versions to test different outcomes without losing your main one.

It gives you records and reasoning, not a drawn-out bracket picture.

Good to know

  • It is a calculator, not an oracle. It only tells you what your guesses logically imply. Feed it results you are confident in, and trust the chain it builds, but remember it is not predicting winners.
  • Prelims only. It works from preliminary-round pairings. Elimination rounds are not part of the math.
  • It only knows Tabroom and SpeechWire. Other pairing sites are not supported.
  • Your work stays on your device. The tournament data, your team, and your scenarios are saved in your browser, not your account, and they do not touch your cards or topics.

Limits

Bracket Math is free for any signed-in account, with no usage cap. There is only a light rate limit on loading tournaments, which a normal person never reaches.

Common problems

  • "No pairings found at this URL." Make sure the link points to a pairings or postings page, and that results have actually been posted for that round.
  • "Only Tabroom and SpeechWire URLs are supported." Use a link from one of those two sites.
  • Your record shows as unknown. You have not tagged any results yet, or the team code did not match. Tag a round you are sure of to start the chain.
