Speechify

Turn a stack of cards into a written constructive or rebuttal speech you can refine.

Speechify is a speech-writing tool, not a text-to-speech tool. You paste a stack of cut cards and it writes a polished, ready-to-read debate speech from them, which you can then edit and refine. It does not produce audio; it produces the words.

When to use it

Use Speechify when you have your evidence cut and you want it turned into flowing speech text: a constructive to read, or a rebuttal that goes argument by argument. If you only want the condensed card text without rewriting, use Rhetorify instead.

The two modes

A toggle picks what kind of speech you get:

  • Case: a constructive speech. It opens with framing, moves through your contentions in the order you gave them, builds weight, and ties them together at the end.
  • Blocks: a rebuttal speech. It goes point by point, stating an argument and then answering it with your evidence, with sharper transitions.

How to use it

  1. Open Speechify from the Tools menu.
  2. Copy your cards from your Google Doc and paste them into the left box. The right Extraction panel shows what it pulled out.
  3. Check and fix the extraction. The Extraction panel is editable, so you can correct anything before generating. Use Reset to undo your edits and restore the original.
  4. Pick Case or Blocks.
  5. Click Generate Speech. The speech appears in an editor on the right, where you can hand-edit it.

Refining your speech

After the speech is generated, a chat assistant (the round button in the bottom corner) lets you refine it in plain language. Type something like "make the intro more persuasive," click Send, and it shows the change in the editor as a preview with Accept and Reject buttons. Refinements are conversational, and they are free and unlimited, so iterate as much as you want.

When you are happy, click Copy to put the speech on your clipboard, formatted for Google Docs or Word.

If you built a block in Block Builder, you can send it straight here with its Generate Speech button, which opens Speechify in Blocks mode with your block already loaded.

Limits and cost

  • Generating a speech: free accounts get 3 total (a lifetime trial, they do not reset); Pro gets 60 per month.
  • Refinements are free. Tweaking a speech with the chat assistant never counts against your limit.
  • Rate limit: 10 generations per minute.

See Plans & Limits for details.

Common problems

  • The extraction is empty. Speechify reads the formatting of cards copied from Google Docs. If you paste plain text, there is nothing to extract. Copy your cards directly from the Doc, highlighting intact.
  • "Speech generation failed." Click Retry. If it keeps failing, shorten or simplify what you pasted.
  • Best with a handful of cards. There is no hard limit, but a focused stack of cards produces a tighter speech than dumping everything in.
